Lady Hounds win, still fighting for district title

The Boerne High girls soccer team rolled past Great Heart Northern Oaks, 14-0, Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the boys team.

The Boerne High girls soccer team rolled past Great Heart Northern Oaks, 14-0, Friday night as part of a doubleheader with the boys team.

BHS is 7-1-3 in 26-4A and 14-3-5 overall. They are off for a week and resume play on Monday, March 21, when the Lady Greyhounds host Bandera.

This year’s 26-4A title will come down to that night. Right now, Wimberley is in first at 8-1-2 and Boerne is in second at 7-1-3.

Based on the district formula that a win is worth 3 points and a tie 1 points, the Texans have 26 points, while Boerne has 24 points.

If Boerne wins on Monday and Wimberley loses or ties, then the Lady Greyhounds earn this year’s district title and it would be their 8th consecutive.

If Boerne wins, they would have 27 points and a Wimberley loss to Davenport would leave them at 26 points so Boerne would take the title.

If Boerne wins and Wimberley and Davenport tie, the Texans pick up a point and they would have 27 points to tie the Greyhounds but BHS would have the tiebreaker since they tied and beat the Texans this year.

In Friday’s match, Kylie Combs finished with 5 goals, while Madeline Davis, Hannah Bowen and Gigi Hernandez all netted 2 goals and A’Marie Ramirez, Taylor Hudson and Avery Ukeiley knocked in 1 goal apiece.

Combs picked up 2 assists, while Bowen, Regina Hernandez, Taylor Durham, Taylor Hudson, Madeline Davis and Ramirez all had 1 assist.

Combs now has 31 goals this year and 19 assists, while Bowen has 26 goals and 7 assists.
