Hill Country Comets compete at district, regional, state, nationals and at Swedish nationals

The Hill Country Comets Track & Field Club continues to be an unstoppable force. These athletes are determined, many of which begin their training during the fall indoor season and continued to excel throughout the spring and summer. With a team of over 300 athletes, they are growing and achieving new heights together.

The Comets hosted their 4th Annual Comets Hill Country Championships at Champion early in the summer. More than 1,000 athletes participated in this highly competitive event, which set the tone for the rest of the season.

The Comets continued to compete at various local meets in the surrounding area, showcasing their skills and determination. Additionally, Nike Outdoor Nationals were held at Hayward Field at the University of Oregon, June 15-18, and alongside electrifying talent from around the U.S., the Comets athletes responded with great competition and top national performances. Here are some of the highlights:

Nike Outdoor Nationals Results: All Americans (top 6) Boys: Ben Blomqvist-Decathlon- 3rd (4th best performance All-time in Texas for High School); Dominik Parr -Middle School Shot Put -2nd; Josh Cornelius-Emerging Elite High Jump-6th; Reggie Johnson-Emerging Elite Discus-1st Girls: Elaina Craven -Emerging Elite High Jump-3rd The Comets’ hard work paid off at another qualifying meet, the TAAF Regional Meet in Waco, Texas. The top three finishers in each event qualified to advance and compete at the TAAF State Track Meet in Brownsville, July 27-30.

TAAF State Meet Results: Girls: Emma Southard (10U) 800m-4th, 1600m 5th, Emily Reyes (10U) Shotput-4th; Bethany Preusse (14U) Shotput-1st, Discus-1st (State Record); Carolyn Falk (14U) Shotput- 3rd, Discus-4th Boys: Diego Flores (14U) 1600m-5th Furthermore, close to 200 Comet athletes competed in the AAU District Meet held on June 16-17, and over 100 of their athletes qualified for the Region 19 meet held late June in Seguin. The meet was another Comet invasion, as the Comets were the largest team in the region, and qualified an arsenal full of athletes to advance to nationals. The athletes listed below punched their tickets to compete at the AAU Junior Olympics National Championship Meet at the iconic Drake stadium in Des Moines, Iowa, July 20-Aug. 5.

The athletes fought through preliminary, semi and quarter-finals to make it to the finals, and the top 8 athletes in each division of each event are crowned with the prestigious title of All-American, competing against the top track and field athletes in the nation, and earning that reputation as they take the biggest stage in the sport. This is an annual outdoor track and field competition organized by the Swedish Athletics Association, which serves as the national championship for the sport in Sweden. Noah and Ben have dual citizenship, which enabled them to enter this meet after meeting the qualifying standards to compete at this world renown meet, and they both walked away with satisfying results.

Swedish Athletics Championship Results: Noah Blomqvist 15U Shotput-2nd Ben Blomqvist 19U Decathlon-2nd One week later at the Blomqvist Invitational Meet held in Gothenburg, Sweden, Noah PR’d in shot put with a throw of 54-10 earning him the No. 1 ranked spot for 15U boys in all of Sweden.

The Comet’s unwavering determination to “Start Strong and Finish Stronger” continues to stand true. The athletes’ and coaches’ hard work and dedication has truly paid off, and they are confident their success will continue in the future. The outstanding performances are a testament to their commitment to excellence, and their unwavering focus and dedication to training has made them a force to be reckoned with. The coaches and athletes are incredibly grateful for the support they have received, and they encourage everyone to keep cheering them on, as their dynasty of domination is only getting stronger and there is no doubt they will continue to achieve more in the future. Fall training groups are kicking off and registration is now open on the website. Indoor season will soon follow as training continues.
