Both the Comfort High boys and girls basketball teams were in action Friday night.
The Bobcats visited Uvalde and dropped a close one, while the Deer hosted YWLA and earned a big win.
The Comfort boys were at Jourdanton Tuesday and the girls are off until Dec. 29 when they Leakey, 12:30 p.m.
Varsity Boys
The Bobcats lost to Uvalde Friday, 58-54, and slipped to 7-7 this year.
Comfort was up 19-14 after one but couldn’t hold the lead. Uvalde outscored the Cats in the second, 10-8, and the Comfort lead was down to 27-24 by halftime.
The Coyotes surged in the third and won the quarter 19-11 and took a 43-38 lead into the final stanza.
Comfort tried to rally in the fourth quarter and outscored Uvalde but only by a point, 16-15, to give the Coyotes a 4-point win.
Jaydin Steward led CHS with 12 points, Joel Lozano and Jackson Dear scored 10 each, Jovani Zapata tallied 8, Jared Valadez finished with 5, Gio Lopez and Daniel Adams knocked in 3 points apiece, Santos Hernandez added 2 and Aidan Schwarz hit a free throw.
Varsity Girls
Comfort blew out Young Women’s Leadership Academy Friday night at home, 49-9, and improved to 6-13 this season.
It was a slow start for both teams as Comfort was only leading 15-5 at the half after winning the first quarter, 7-3, and taking the second, 8-2.
The Deer picked things up in the second half and tallied 34 points. They won the third period 16-4 and took the fourth quarter, 18-0.
Rachel Adams finished with 10 points, Danielle Ruelas recorded 8 points, Jael Hernandez netted 7, Hannah Adams had 6, Tindall Ahrens and Katie Haffner scored 4 points apiece, Cynthia Leos and Molly Gowan both chipped in with 3, while Alexa Lozano and Brianna Ornelas dropped in 2 points each as 10 Deer scored in the game.
Ahrens snagged 7 rebounds, Hernandez recorded 8 steals and 3 assists, while Rachel Adams dished out 4 assists.
