Champion boys hit 11 3s to cruise past Sotomayor

The Champion boys hosted Sotomayor Friday night at Charger Gym in a non-district contest and picked up a 15-point win 61-46.

Champion improves to 14-3 overall and won’t play again until the Boerne ISD Holiday Tournament Dec. 27-28.

Friday’s win was Champion’s second straight over a NS school this year and third overall against the 6A district.

The Chargers were up, 19-12, at the end of one and were outscored in the second, 15-12, but took a 31-27 lead into halftime.

Champion pulled away in the third with 19 points and outscored Sotomayor 19-8 in the quarter to open up a 50-35 lead. Quinn Grable had a strong showing in the third and tallied 12 of the team’s 19 points.

Both teams scored 11 in the final stanza as the Chargers finished with 11 3-pointers in the game.

Grable tallied 19 points and knocked down four of the 3s, Mason Wyatt scored 11 and drained three 3s, Kristian Herrera was hot early and hit two 3s in the first and finished with 8 points, Baeden Burdick netted 8 points and hit a couple of 3s, Briggs Jones scored 4 points, Charlie Georgelos added 9 and had five points in the first, while Logan Scott hit for 2.
