THE BOOKWORM
CASSIDY KENNELL BOERNE PUBLIC LIBRARY
Happy Holidays
What a wonderful time of year. During this holiday break, the library is a great place to stop by and stock up on books, electronics, board games, and more.
Parents and children will enjoy visiting the youth department which is decorated for the upcoming holidays. With books shelves covered in snow and festive ornamentations, kids will feel immersed in a winter wonderland.
While you are here, don’t forget to swing by the spotlight display on your way in. We have it decorated with Christmas books to get the whole family excited for the upcoming celebrations.
Brunch with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, Dec. 23 at 10:30 a.m.
On December 23, we have the privilege of being visited by the most jolly and wonderful pair around. Come by the community room for the magical opportunity to visit with Mr. and Mrs. Claus.
Kids will love to sit with the fantastic pair as they unravel their Christmas wish lists. Parents should make sure to bring their personal cameras to capture this wonderful moment.
Santa’s favorite holiday treats, delicious Christmas cookies and hot cocoa, will be served to all attendees; however, space is limited. To ensure your seat, plan to arrive promptly at 10:30 a.m. You don’t want to miss out on this wonderful event.
No Regular Programs December 18 – January 6
During the busy holiday season, the youth department will be taking a little break from our weekly programs. We will resume Storytimes and other regular programs on January 8. However, we still have fun planned for your children during the break.
December 18th-23rd there will be an I-Spy game going on in the Youth Department. To participate, children can use their seeking skills to find the little elf hiding somewhere in the youth room. If you spy the elf, come tell us and receive a fun prize.
During this week, we will also be offering a Christmas- themed “Art-To-Go.” Come by the Youth desk and ask for our art-to-go starting December 18. Stock is limited so items will be first-come, first-served.
For those who have never received one, Art-To-Go is a fun craft bag that has a take-and-make project for elementary-school-aged kids. Children can take the craft home and follow the simple steps to put together a neat little art project.
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
The New Year is right around the corner, and before you know it 2024 will be here. We all know, the New Year is a great time for starting new routines, goals, and resolutions.
This year, consider making 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten a new resolution for you and your little ones.
The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a simple and fun way to initiate your children’s love for reading. Reading has long been associated as an early indicator of academic success. By beginning your child’s journey of reading early, you can help them gain the confidence necessary to become a strong reader.
Starting your 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten journey is simple -- come by the youth Department desk to pick up directions and your first 100 books counting sheet.
This is an “at your own pace” program. When you are done reading your first 100 books, return your sheet and your child will get their name placed on our 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten bookshelf display.
For every 100 books read, their name will move up the bookshelf, and they will receive fun prizes along the way.
We can’t wait to see you all during this wonderful holiday season at the library. We wish everyone safe travels and happy holidays!
