Eagles rally to defeat state-ranked Brentwood

The Geneva School of Boerne boys basketball team took on the state-ranked Bears of Brentwood to open district play Tuesday night on the road.

The Eagles fell behind early but rallied to beat the No. 4 ranked Bears, 67-61.

Geneva starts district at 1-0 and is 11-3 overall. They took on Texas School for the Deaf Friday at home.

The Bears entered the contest ranked No. 4 in the TABC polls and built a 9-point lead with three minutes left in the first half, but the Eagles fought back to take a 31-30 halftime lead.

Brentwood finished the third quarter up by 3 points, but Geneva came out in the fourth quarter and soared to a 11-point lead with three minutes left in the period.

The Eagles ended up outscoring the Bears by 9 in the final stanza, 24-15, and finished with a 67-61 win to open district play.

Eagles coach Julius McNeal said everyone did their part to help in the victory.

“This was a great team effort today against a very talented Brentwood team. Tonight, we stuck to the game plan and executed in key moments,” McNeal said. “I tell the kids all the time that we are better together and we did a great job of playing together.”

Colton Lutz had a huge game with 30 points, Wyatt Bruss added 15 and Griffin Freiling scored 12 while K.P FitzGerald added 6 and Jack Taylor netted 4.
