COMFORT – Comfort High hosted a boys basketball tournament last weekend and the Bobcats finished fourth in the field of 16 teams.
Comfort played St. Augustine in the thirdplace game Saturday at noon and the Laredo school won, 72-60.
The Bobcats posted a record of 2-2 at the event and stand at 6-6 this year. Comfort is on the road for two games this week. They visited Harper Tuesday and play at Uvalde Friday.
Comfort opened the tournament Thursday with an 58-57 overtime win over San Antonio Stacey.
It was close throughout and Stacey was winning at the end of one, 14-13. Comfort outscored the S.A. school in the second, 15-12, and held a 28-26 lead at the break.
The Bobcats took the third 13-11 and built a 41-37 edge when the fourth quarter started but Stacey tied them in the fourth after they outscored the Cats, 14-10, to make it 51-51 and send to overtime.
Even in the extra period, it was close but Comfort prevailed by a point, 7-6, to win it.
On Friday, the Bobcats took care of Lutheran, 57-40, to pick up its second win of the tourney and advance to the semifinals, but that put them up against Poth.
Poth went on to win the tournament with a win over Marion and defeated Comfort, 68-51.
Poth advanced to the finals and the loss dropped Comfort to the third-place game where they played St. Augustine and lost, 72-60, to get fourth.
