SAN ANTONIO – The Boerne Champion boys basketball team pulled away from Holmes Friday night in the second quarter after they outscored the Huskies in the period, 26-8.
That 18-point differential propelled the Chargers to a 75-51 win at Northside Gym. Champion improves to 13-3 overall and was off Tuesday.
The Chargers continue non-district play Friday when they host Sotomayor, 6:30 p.m.
Last Friday’s game in San Antonio was tied 15-15 after they had played the first quarter but Champion heated up from the outside and started knocking down 3s in the second period and finished the stanza with 26 points.
Quinn Grable drained three 3-pointers in the quarter, Briggs Jones had a pair of 3s and Baeden Burdick hit one in the stanza to help the Chargers pull ahead for good.
Champion won the third and fourth quarters by 3 points each. They outscored the Huskies in the third, 20-17 and claimed the final stanza, 14-11, to close it out.
The Chargers had some balanced scoring and had four players in double digits. Grable led the team with 16 points, Georgelos added 15, Tre Hudspeth netted 14 and Jones tallied 12.
Burdick just missed out on double digits and scored 9, while Kristian Herrera had 4, Alex Ross finished with 3 and Cole Riha chipped in with 2.
Champion hit 11 3-pointers in the contest and had at least one in each quarter.
