BOERNE -- City officials have announced that the West Theissen Street bridge over Frederick Creek will be closed for 4-6 weeks while work crews make necessary repairs.
According to a city report issued Monday, Boerne’s Engineering and Mobility Department, after consulting with public safety teams and traffic and safety committee, closed the bridge West Theissen Street bridge due to unsafe driving conditions, until further notice.
The $90,000 project is expected to take about 4-6 weeks to complete once construction begins. Barricades will be placed on both sides of the bridge to prevent access to the construction site.
While the water levels were lowered during an unrelated project along the Cibolo Creek, city crews began conducting more rigorous inspections of culverts and drainage inlets along the creeks that are usually covered by water.
During one inspection, crews found an area of extensive erosion in the culvert caused by decades of exposure to the elements.
City officials said they are working with a local contractor and anticipate repairs will begin in the coming weeks.
For drivers, the nearby businesses and homes can be reached by utilizing Main Street and West Hosack Street to access West Theissen. Pedestrian access to the nearby Cibolo Trail will remain open
