Para-Archer from Boerne earns silver medal at Parapan-American Games

SANTIAGO, CHILE – Jason Tabansky of Boerne won a silver medal in Para-Archery at his firstever Parapan-American Games.

Tabansky defeated fellow American Lucas Herro in the semifinal round, 132-123, before Tabansky was defeated by Eugenio Franco (Brazil), 135-123, in the finals.

“This is my very first Parapan- American Games, so I’m just thrilled to be down here being able to represent our country,” Tabansky said. “A lot of people would be upset but I’m happy to go home with a silver medal. I’ve known my competitor [Franco] for about six years now and this was his last competition, so timing for him - ‘his was this it, tomorrow’s my turn.’” The W1 Class means that competitors are not permitted to use a magnifying sight, and the draw weight is limited to 45 pounds.

In all, Team USA Para-Archers won six medals on Tuesday – two gold, two silver, and two bronze.

“It doesn’t matter what disability you have. You can shoot a bow. I mean, we’ve got people with no arms. We’ve got people with one arm; we’ve got blind archers. We’ve got all walks of life, and we get to participate against the able-bodied archers … and you know, I’m proud to say that sometimes we end up beating them,” Tabansky said.
