The Geneva School of Boerne Fine Arts Department recently finished its production of A Christmas Carol, the musical based on the classic tale of Ebenezer Scrooge, a wealthy curmudgeon who places wealth above love, family and friends.
“As many of you may already know, A Christmas Carol concludes with Scrooge’s pledge of ‘Let the Christmas spirit live within me yesterday, tomorrow and today,’” said Ben Vis, the show’s music director. “With that creed in mind, I can say Geneva’s production was particularly poignant for our cast, crew, orchestra and audience.”
Geneva’s production included more than 80 students, 10 teachers and dozens of parents including cast, crew and a live orchestra who worked together to make the musical possible.
“Each of us reflected on our preparation and previous shows together, embraced our performances, and anticipated our futures which will forever be changed through this shared experience,” Vis said. “I am so pleased with the student’s excellence, but I am most blessed to witness their Christ-like love toward one another.”
The cast included students from fifth through 12th grade who portrayed a variety of characters. The role of Scrooge was played by senior Will Muck while junior Sam Siller played Bob Cratchit.
Other key roles were performed by fifth grader Colby Dwyer (Tiny Tim), senior Kate Travis (Ghost of Christmas Past), senior Keaton Shindler (Ghost of Christmas Present), freshman Sofia Ramirez (Ghost of Christmas Future), freshman Nathan Player (Jacob Marley), senior Alexandria Bussey (Mrs. Fezziwig), sophomore Mason Sutton (Mr. Fezziwig), senior Taylor Hubenak (Emily) and sophomore Christian Vis (Young Scrooge).
The production was led by Vis with a leadership team including audio engineer Luis Arizpe, choir director Suzie Rocha, fine arts director Gradi Evans, pit orchestration Sarah Gachupin, costumer Holly Williams, choreographer Kirsten Burkholder, student director Alexandria Bussey, student stage manager Mary Simpson, student promotion director Taylor Hubenak and student program designer Lindsay Lee.
Tryouts were held at the beginning of the school year and rehearsals began in early September.
