BHS boys take tourney title in Hondo

The Boerne High boys played in their second hoops tournament of the year last weekend when they were at the Hondo tourney.

BHS won all five games played in Hondo and finished 5-0 to win the tourney title. Casen Hoegemeyer, Hank Hendrix and Luke Fox were all named to the all-tournament team.

The Greyhounds improved to 12-2 overall and visit Brackenridge Tuesday. After that, they’re off for a week until they host Uvalde.

Boerne opened with a 77-41 victory over London on Thursday.

Luke Fox led the Greyhounds with 20 points, Casen Hoegemeyer added 16, Sam Holland scored 11 and Hank Hendrix finished with 10 as four BHS players were in double digits.

Hendrix grabbed 7 rebounds, while Hoegemeyer, Slade Salinas and Holland all hauled in 6 boards. Hoegemeyer tallied 5 assists and Holland came up with 4 steals.

Later on Thursday, Boerne cruised past Carrizo Springs, 81-75.

Casen Hoegemeyer led the team with 13 points, Nic Hernandez and Slade Salinas both scored 12 and Hank Hendrix netted 11 as four BHS players were in double figures again.

Luke Fox and Noa Sanchez both tallied 8 points, while Sam Holland and Will Traylor chipped in with 5 points each.

Hendrix and Traylor led the team on the boards with 6 rebounds each, Hoegemeyer, Hendrix and Sanchez all dished out 3 assists and Hernandez came up with 3 steals.

Boerne returned on Friday and defeated Castle Hills, 70-31. The Hounds won every quarter and went up 27-8 after one period. They took the second, 16-3, won the third, 9-8, and closed it out in the fourth at 18-12.

Slade Salinas paced BHS with 14 points and 9 rebounds, while Luke Fox and Noa Sanchez both scored 11.

Sam Holland chipped in with 8, Nic Hernandez scored 7, Casen Hoegemeyer had 3 points, Julien Hartman and Will Traylor both dropped in 2.

Hoegemeyer, Hendrix, Salinas and Sanchez all dished out 3 assists, while Holland and Hoegemeyer both came up with 2 steals and Traylor blocked 2 shots.

Later on Friday, Boerne defeated S.A. Kennedy, 43-28.

It was a slow start for both and BHS was only leading 7-2 at the end of one. JFK won the second stanza, 9-5 and BHS was leading at the break, 12-11.

The Hounds picked things up in the second half and hit in double digits in the third and fourth with 16 and 15 and outscored the Rockets in the second half, 31-17.

Seven Boerne players scored but none were in double digits after Hank Hendrix led the team with 8 points, Casen Hoegemeyer and Will Traylor both scored 7, Nic Hernandez netted 6, Sam Holland finished with 5, while Noa Sanchez and Luke Fox tallied 4 points apiece.

Hoegemeyer grabbed 7 rebounds, Luke Fox had 4 assists and Will Traylor blocked 2 shots.

Boerne closed out the tourney on Saturday by beating Burbank to win the tourney title.

Casen Hoegemeyer recorded 17 points and Luke Fox scored 12, while Sam Holland netted 9, Nic Hernandez added 7 points, Hank Hendrix finished with 4 and Noa Sanchez and Will Traylor both scored 2.

Hendrix and Fox brought in 7 rebounds each, Hendrix dished out 5 assists and Fox came up with 3 steals.
