Chargers post 5-1 mark at Border Olympics Hoopfest in Laredo

Boerne Champion posted a 5-1 mark at the Border Olympics Hoopfest boys tournament in Laredo and was the Gold bracket champion to finish second overall.

Quinn Grable was named to the all-tournament team at the event held last weekend.

The Chargers improved to 11-3 overall and played at Sam Houston Tuesday. They’ll take on Holmes Friday at Northside.

Champion opened the tourney with a 74-42 win over Cole.

Briggs Jones finished with 19 points, Charlie Georgelos added 15 and Baeden Burdick scored 10.

Kristian Herrera netted 8, Louis Hudspeth chipped in with 6, Quinn Grable had 5, Preston Lee tallied 4 and Joshua Marquez hit for 3.

Georgelos also recorded 5 rebounds and 4 assists.

Next on Thursday, the Chargers lost to Laredo Alexander, 59-43, for its only setback of the game.

Briggs Jones had another strong game with 18 points, Quinn Grable scored 9, Louis Hudspeth tallied 6, Kristian Herrera added 4, while Charlie Georgelos and Mason Wyatt both netted 3 as only six Chargers scored in the game.

Georgelos led the team in assists and rebounds with 5 each.

Champion returned Friday and defeated Laredo Cigarroa, 60-25.

Eleven different Chargers scored in the game and were led by Briggs Jones for the third game in a row with 10 points.

Quinn Grable had 9, Charlie Georgelos, Baeden Burdick, Mason Wyatt and Cole Riha all tallied 6, Kristian Herrera netted 5, Logan Scott added 4, Nikolas Georgelos and Alex Ross both scored 3 and Joshua Marquez hit for 2.

Riha grabbed 4 rebounds and Mason Wyatt dished out 5 assists.

Later on Friday, the Chargers recorded its biggest win of the tourney with a 90-27 victory over Eagle Pass Winn.

Quinn Grable led the Chargers with 22 points and Kristian Herrera added 21, Louis Hudspeth netted 14 and Briggs Jones scored 12 as four Champion players were in double digits.

Alex Ross tallied 7, Baeden Burdick had 6, Cole Riha and Preston Lee chipped in with 4 and Logan Scott hit for 2.

Jones grabbed 8 rebounds and Georgelos had 5 assists.

On Saturday, the Chargers played its closest game of the tourney with a 52-51 victory over Edinburg Vela.

Champion had some balanced scoring after Quinn Grable netted 16, Charlie Georgelos added 15 and Briggs Jones tallied 14.

Baeden Burdick chipped in with 6 points and Cole Riha hit a free throw.

Burdick snagged 6 boards and Grable tallied 4 assists.

The Chargers closed out the tourney with a 45-29 victory over Laredo United.

Charlie Georgelos paced the team with 16 points and was the only Champion player in double figures.

Kristian Herrera scored 9, Briggs Jones added 7, Quinn Grable recorded 6, Baeden Burdick tallied 5 and Joshua Marquez had 2.

Georgelos and Jones both grabbed 8 rebounds.
