* Winter Prairie Bird Workshop, Cibolo Nature Center, 9 a.m. to noon. Attend this workshop to learn about identifying local sparrows by their field marks. Attendees will also be invited to participate in a bird survey at The Cibolo Preserve, an area usually closed off to the public.
* Winter in Yellowstone/American Buffalo Artist Talks, from 2-6:30 p.m. at Gallery 195, 195 S. Main St. in Boerne. Award-winning nature and wildlife photographer James Heupel will be giving talks in the gallery on the American buffalo, the National Mammal of the United States, accompanied by photographs. From 4-7 p.m., Heupel and artist Julie Jarvis will be featured in “Gather and Capture” at an Artist Spotlight reception. The evening will showcase these two artists, who feature nature and natural materials in their respective works.

* Hill Country Newcomers Club (HCNC) meeting will be held from 10 a.m. to noon at the Family Life Center of St. Mark Presbyterian Church, 208 W. Bandera Road. The annual Christmas party and luncheon are on tap for this meeting.
