Book bans have no place in Kendall County
Editor: Book ban. What do those two words conjure up in your mind?
To me, it’s Hitler and Nazi Germany. Where did that action lead? Dictatorship, wars, death and destruction.
Banning books seems like such a small action, but it is the beginning of larger and more dangerous movements. Do we really want to travel down this road again, seeing what happened to the world with WW II? I hope not.
At a past Commissioners Court meeting, a vote to cut funding for the Comfort and Boerne libraries was made by County Judge Shane Stolarczyk, Commissioners Andra Wisian, and Chad Carpenter; their reasoning is that there are books that they feel are offensive in our libraries.
In this open letter to them, I would like to know which books they feel need to be banned. What is your justification? Shouldn’t the community be involved with these types of decisions?
Our libraries are a crown jewel in our community. They offer more than books; there are programs for students of all ages, free WiFi, public meeting spaces, and much more.
Book banning has no place in Kendall County.
