Jana Michelle Henson was born October 12, 1962, in Snyder, Texas, to Jerry Tom and Patricia (Brooks) Edwards. She grew up in Snyder, Strawn and Ranger.

She was a graduate of Ranger High School in 1981. She graduated from Ranger College and received her bachelor’s degree in accounting from Tarleton State University. She worked for her family’s business, Edwards Funeral Homes, then FDLIC and Directors Succession Planning, along with several other funeral related companies before joining ETS, where she was a manager of finance. She was dedicated to her work and during her career she learned to channel her anger, resolve and determination into her work, where she would overachieve on every task or goal, which made her a dream employee.

She is survived by the light of her life, her daughter Brandy Bartz, and husband Zac; her father, Jerry Edwards and wife Margaret; her brother, Terry Edwards, and wife Deana; her sisters, Suzanne Edwards Hunter, and husband, Deron, and Heather Edwards Hauboldt, and husband Charlie; her sister-inlaw, Phyllis (P.J.) Edwards; her two favorite girls, her granddaughters, Amelia Emerson and Vivien Grey Bartz; her nieces and nephews, Wendy Tate, Ben Edwards, Blake Edwards, Ian Edwards, Orie Edwards, Echo Edwards, Megan Webb, Brooke Thompson and Carsten Hauboldt; her great nephews, Taylor Tate, Jakob Edwards, Brekken Edwards, Perrin Edwards and Wyatt Edwards; and numerous cousins and family members that she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pat “Mama Pat” Edwards on November 28, 2012; her paternal grandparents, Tommy Edwards and Vella Edwards Hill; and maternal grandparents Charles and Edith Brooks.

Michelle was known for her beautiful smile and infectious laugh. She loved “big, and wide,” always gathering people up along her life journey. She had a childlike quality of accepting all people and loving them for exactly who they are.

She was a true friend. She always put others first and would help anyone in need. She often said she had a face that people she did not even know would share their life story with. She had a free spirit and loved adventure, which Vivien gets from her.

Music spoke to her soul. She said she could be having a bad day and a song could turn it around, which Amelia gets from her. She truly adopted the philosophy, “When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade.”

Her love for Jesus made her eager to learn all the Bible had to say about every situation. Her faith brought her peace that enabled her to enjoy each and every day.

She loved traveling, going to concerts, country dancing, and her NASCAR family. She lived to spend time with her family and friends, but the holidays were her favorite.

She spent countless hours capturing and recording the Brooks and Edwards family history for the generations to come.

She loved her family but her four true loves were Mama Pat, Brandy, Amelia and Vivien. She connected to each one of her family in the unique way each person needed. To sum it up, loving people and family was her God-given gift and she did it well.

If desired, the family requests that memorials be made to Speedway Children’s Charities, Texas chapter, 3545 Lone Star Circle, Fort Worth, Texas, or World Vision International, P.O. Box 9716, Federal Way, WA 98063.

A special thanks to the staff of Harrell Funeral Home in Austin, Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home in Boerne, and Grace Funeral Homes in Victoria for their extra special care of Michelle.
