Champion played one non-district boys basketball game before Thanksgiving break and it was a nailbiter with Steele.

Last Tuesday’s game was back-and-forth before the Knights won by a point at Charger Gym, 47-46.

Champion slips to 5-2 overall and hosted Marshall Tuesday in Boerne before playing in the Border Olympics Hoopfest in Laredo this coming weekend.

Champion was winning last Tuesday’s game, 45-41, but Steele hit a 3-pointer as the clock slipped under a minute to trim the lead to a point at 45-44.

The Knights started fouling and eventually sent the Chargers to the line where they went 1 for 2 to push the lead to 46-44.

With time winding down, the Knight took the lead with another 3-pointer and only 5 ticks left on the clock.

After the bucket, the Chargers turned the ball over on the inbounds pass and Steele was able to run out the clock from there.

Quinn Grable led Champion in scoring with 16 points and knocked down four 3-pointers, Briggs Jones finished with 11 points, Charlie Georgelos added 9 points, Baeden Burdick scored 5, Kristian Herrera and Tre Hudspeth both hit a 3 and Mason Wyatt tallied 2.
