Boerne Champion played two girls basketball games on the road last week before the Thanksgiving break and split the two.
Champion was at Fredericksburg Monday and lost to the Battlin’ Billies. After that, the Chargers played Stevens Tuesday at Paul Taylor Field House and won.
The Lady Chargers are 4-6 overall and visited Alamo Heights Tuesday before playing in the New Braunfels Canyon tournament this coming weekend.
Vs. Fredericksburg
The Lady Chargers were at Fredericksburg last Monday and lost to the Battlin’ Billies, 69-33.
Champion was trailing 15-3 after one and went into the break down 33-9 after Fred won the second, 18-6.
The Chargers played better in the second half and were in double digits in the third and fourth quarters, but the Battlin’ Billies outscored them, 20-14 and 16-10.
Hailey Winn led the Chargers in scoring with 6 points, while Addison Darter and Cris Ramon both tallied 5.
Winn, Casandra Aleman and Adriana Barreiro all grabbed 4 rebounds, while Barreiro had 3 assists and Aleman came up with 2 steals.
Vs. Stevens
Champion tangled with Stevens at Paul Taylor Field House last Tuesday and won a close one, 46-41.
At one point, the Chargers were down 25-8 in the second quarter before mounting a comeback.
Stevens jumped out to a 16-7 lead in the opening stanza but the Chargers outscored them in the second, 10-9, and the Stevens lead was down to 25-17.
Champion took the third quarter, 14-6, and tied it at 31-all when the period ended.
The Chargers closed it out by winning the final stanza, 16-10, to earn the 6-point win.
Adriana Barreiro was a jack-of-all trades and paced Champion with 9 assists, 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals.
Bralyn Gault and Taylor Burk led the team in scoring with 13 points apiece, Burk also came up with 3 steals, while Abby Sommer dished out 3 assists.
Hailey Winn snagged 6 boards, while Burk and Gault both hauled in 5 rebounds apiece.
