Festival Of Trees highlight of library holiday

THE BOOKWORM NATALIE MORGAN BOERNE PUBLIC LIBRARY

‘Festival of Trees’

The Festival of Trees, always a delightful event, is a community project that features fully decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and other holiday décor generously donated or sponsored by local individuals, civic groups or businesses.

Visitors can stroll through the festive display in the library lobby and bid on the holiday items to have wrapped up and delivered to their home or businesses.

The bright and colorful items will be on display during library business hours the week of November 27 through December 1, with the silent auction taking place on Saturday, December 2. We are so grateful to all who are sponsoring an item or two.

Proceeds will benefit the Friends of the Boerne Public Library, who will in turn provide funding to further the library’s mission and goals.

Movement classes for adults

We are strong proponents of health and well-being and, with that in mind, we’re pleased to offer two different movement classes for adults.

Each Friday, at 10 a.m., volunteer LaVada Smith guides patrons through the ancient meditative, easy movement practice of Qi gong in the community room. Dress comfortably, and no special equipment or mats needed. This program is part of our Silver Library Initiative.

Additionally, each first Friday of the month, take in a bit of relaxing yoga at 6 p.m. in the community room. We have partnered with yoga instructor Janeen Castillo to provide this program. Bring your own mat; but if you don’t have one, we have some available for use. Both classes are free and open to the public.

Second-Saturday author

On the Second Saturday of each month, we feature an author in the lobby who is happy to talk with visitors, sell books and then sign the copies. Our December author is DeeDee Lake, and her timely book is called “Christmas Camouflage.” Stop by the library on Saturday, December 10, anytime from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Classic movie series

Each month we partner with The Center at Kronkosky to host the screening of a classic movie. This program is free and open to the public, and is located in The Center at 17 Old San Antonio Road.

This month’s movie, starting at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, is the charming “Shop Around the Corner,” with a young Jimmy Stewart. Email Caren at [email protected] to sign up.

‘Live! At the Library’ Our December concert will take place on Thursday, December 21, from 7-9 p.m. We will be featuring the music of Steve Garry and his band, who are well known for their Southwest Americana mixed with blues, bluegrass, and country.

We plan to host this free concert at our outdoor amphitheater, weather permitting. Don’t forget to bring your snuggly coats, blankets or chairs, and perhaps even a fun night-time picnic.

The library offers these concerts as part of our “Live! at the Library” series, which take place on the third Thursday of each month.

‘Grand’ Connections If you’re a grandparent who is occasionally -- or always -- in charge of your young grandchildren, you have the opportunity to meet and talk with other grandparents while the little ones play in our youth activity room.

You can chat with other caregivers anytime you visit the library, but 1 p.m. on Mondays is set aside especially for a chance to meet others.

Call the library or email Miss Cassidy at ckennell@ boernelibrary.org, to learn more.

Library closure

The library will be closing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, December 5 so the staff can take the time for a team-building exercise. We regret the inconvenience. We will be closed Monday, December 25 and Tuesday, December 26.
