Champion boys finish third at Harlandale tourney

Boerne Champion played in its first boys basketball tournament of the year last weekend at Harlandale and it was a homecoming of sorts for Chargers coach Chris Adamek, who is a Boerne native but coached at Harlandale for many years.

Last year the Chargers won the tourney and this season they came in third after they defeated Somerset in the third-place game.

Charlie Georgelos was named to the All-Tournament Team for the Chargers.

Champion went 3-1 at the tournament and is now 5-1 overall. They hosted Steele Tuesday and will take a little bit of a break for Thanksgiving before resuming action next week.

Champion opened with a 70-18 win over Highlands on Thursday. The Chargers beat Madison on Friday, 53-39, to advance to the semifinals.

In the semis, the Chargers suffered their first loss of the tourney, and for the season, after they were defeated by East Central, 46-27.

The lost to EC put Champion in the third-place game where they beat the Bulldogs of Somerset 45-26 to earn bronze.
