Smithson Valley rallied past the Champion baseball team Wednesday night and used a four-run sixth frame to defeat the Chargers, 7-5.
Champion slips to 5-4 overall and is scheduled to play Clark on Saturday.
The Chargers were leading in Wednesday’s game, 5-3 going into the sixth inning but Smithson Valley plated four runs in the bottom of the frame to pull ahead, 7-5. A bases-clearing double brought in 3 of the runs.
Champion still had one last at bat in the top of the seventh but went down in order as the Rangers kept them off the board to complete the comeback.
The Chargers outhit the Rangers, 8-7, and received an RBI double from Jacob Caraway in the third inning. Aiden Pickett singled and scored twice, Jordan Ballin, Jacob Gresham and Robbie Vela all singled, Josh Bowman singled and scored, while Connor Holtorf singled and scored 2 runs.
Cooper Marshall, Vela and Gresham all tossed in the game. Five of the SV runs were earned and the trio combined for 4 strikeouts and 6 walks.
