Boerne High stayed in the hunt for this year’s district title after the Lady Greyhounds soccer team defeated visiting Canyon Lake Tuesday night at BISD Stadium.

BHS won Tuesday’s contest 5-1 and improved to 13-3-5 overall and 6-1-3 in district. They play Great Hearts Northern Oaks Friday as part of a doubleheader with the boys team. The Boerne boys play at 5 p.m., followed by the girls at 7 p.m.

Boerne and Wimberley are battling for this year’s district title with two matches left in the regular season. BHS is 6-1-3 in district and the Texans are 7-1-2. A win is worth 3 points and a tie is worth 1, so Wimberley has 23 points and Boerne has 21.

After Friday, the teams are off for a week for spring break and close out district play on Monday, March 21. Boerne faces Bandera on that Monday and this year’s 26-4A title may come down to that match.

Wimberley has Bandera and Davenport left on its schedule.

In Tuesday’s match, it was tied at 1-1 late in the first half before Kylie Combs knocked in a goal with just seconds on the clock to make it 2-1 at the break.

In the second half, the Lady Hounds outscored the Hawks, 3-0, to run away with it.

Combs and Hannah Bowen finished with 2 goals each and Madeline Davis added 1 goal.

Gigi Hernandez, Avery Ukeiley, Brooke Milton and Combs all recorded 1 assist apiece.
