Comfort High hosted Georgetown Gateway Tuesday night for a non-district softball game and the Deer defeated the Lady Gators, 9-4.
Before that, Comfort was entered in the Llano tournament where they went 3-2 after winning its first three games and dropping its last two on Saturday.
The two losses on Saturday were its first of the season. CHS stands at 13-2 overall and visits Cole on Friday before opening district.
In Tuesday’s game, the Deer outhit the Gators, 13-5. They were up 7-0 before Gateway scored all 4 of its runs in the top of the fifth. CHS followed that up with single runs in the fifth and sixth.
Morgan Hansen had a great day at the plate and finished with a triple and 2 doubles, Hope Van Geffen doubled, Katie Haffner doubled and singled, Madalynn Rodriguez hit 2 singles pushed in 4 runs and scored once, Tilly Avalos hit 2 singles, Emma Wardlaw walked twice and Tori Hernandez singled and scored.
Wardlaw fanned 10, walked 1, gave up 5 hits and 1 earned run.
Llano Tournament
On the first day of the Llano tourney last Thursday, the Deer mauled Mason, 7-0. The Deer returned on Friday and edged McCallum, 7-6, before blowing out Sonora, 22-2.
On Saturday, Comfort dropped its two games after losing to Fort Worth Country Day by a run, 8-7. Later in the day, they were defeated by Goldthwaite, 12-8.
