The Boerne Independent School District plans to name its lone superintendent finalist at a 5 p.m. meeting today.
A special board meeting was announced for November 15 by the district, with the intent to discuss the choice in executive session and formally announce the candidate the same evening.
The district must wait a state-mandated 21 days before officially hiring the nominee. The three-week period gives the board time to conduct the required criminal history check, to finalize any contract negotiations and tie up any other loose ends.
Current Boerne Superintendent Dr. Thomas Price announced in June 2023 that he would be retiring after a 37-year career in education, the last seven spent as Boerne’s school chief.
The district’s November 13 school board meeting was Price’s last as its superintendent. Once the superintendent-designee begins their tenure, Price will transition to “superintendent emeritus” and serve as an adviser until his retirement in June 2024.
The board meeting starts at 5 p.m. Wednesday in the BISD board room, 235 Johns Road. Once the meeting is open, a “citizens to be heard” segment will be allowed before the board retires into executive session to discuss the superintendency.
Once it returns to open session, the board will announce its choice as the lone superintendent.
