Comfort began its girls basketball season Tuesday night on the road at Nueces Canyon.
A young Deer team fell to the Lady Cougars, 57-29. Comfort starts the year at 0-1 and was back in action Saturday at home against Harper.
Nueces Canyon jumped out to a fast start and was leading 20-4 at the end of the first quarter. The Cougars outscored the Deer in the second, 14-5, and took a 34-9 lead into halftime.
Comfort had its best quarter of the night once the second half started and tallied 12 to outscore the Cougars by a point, 12-11.
Nueces Canyon closed it out and won the fourth quarter, 12-8, to outscored the Deer in three of the four stanzas.
Comfort freshman Rachel Adams led the Deer with 11 points, Katie Haffner scored 6, while Jael Hernandez, Tindall Ahrens and Madison Davis all finished with 4 points.
Hannah Adams led the team on the board with 7 rebounds and Ahrens snagged 6 boards, Hernandez came up with 4 steals and recorded 3 assists, while Rachel Adams had 3 steals.
