ART HUMPHRIES MEMBER OF THE STATE AND COUNTY GOP PARTY
You probably already know that our Kendall County Republican Party Chair, Buck Rogers, passed away recently. It was unexpected. We grieve for his family, and for our organization.
Buck was a fabulous leader. Leadership is an ability developed over time, through many trials.
Buck’s leadership and management skills seemed to come naturally, but clearly, they were honed by an outstanding career in the military. We miss him and pray for his family.
Buck would have been pleased with the transition that “his” county GOP managed in appointing a new leader. Having worked closely with his vice chair Linda Kinney and given her long-term successful work in the Texas State GOP, our county Republican Party saw a seamless transition and now has a new leader in Michael Wheeler, the party’s recent treasurer.
(No, as some have wondered about the relationship to Wheeler’s Outfitters & Feed, he’s not related.)
That transition was formalized at a board meeting of the county Republican party directors, our precinct chairs. It was a unanimous vote, and a vote of confidence in our relatively young (55 years) party chair.
Granted, Mike has “big shoes” to fill, but he comes with enviable, tremendously successful leadership and organizational strengths. We’re blessed to have him.
Mike comes to us with a bachelor’s degree in accountancy, a master’s degree in business administration, a wildly successful career in finance from Charlotte to New York and London, beginning as a market maker, leading to directorship of European high yield credit trading responsible for technology and telecom sectors.
He also owned and operated NY Fold Limited, an independent restaurant with three locations in London.
He and his wife, Annabel, are owners of Wheeler Property Management, with 35 properties and 127 doors of both commercial and residential properties in the Texas Hill Country and San Antonio.
He is a Keller Williams Commercial agent, and incidentally, in the process of building a140,000160,000 square-foot Self Storage/ Flex-Warehouse facility in Boerne. But no, he’s not a land or residential property developer.
Mike knows how to achieve success, and we look forward to his leadership in keeping Kendall County’s historic position as the “reddest” county in Texas.
After the election process, Mike was introduced and closed with these remarks to a packed house of local, county, and state representatives, elected and appointed: “It is incredibly encouraging to see so many people who care about the direction of our party. The United States is in crisis, and we are going to need all of us to come together do our part to take back our country in 2024.
“I am deeply honored in the trust you have bestowed in me and will forever be grateful to Buck Rodgers, who became a dear friend and mentor to me.
“I am so proud that the Republican party, unlike Democrats, allows for debate and disagreement. There are core beliefs we all share such as personal responsibility, right to bear arms, small government, traditional family values, power of faith, and more.
“Our role in the Kendall County Republican party is to not only to educate people on our Republican values, but to win and make Kendall County ‘redder’ than ever.
“People will continue to move to Texas and Kendall County. We can’t let fringe Democrats take over our politics and culture as they have in other states. We need to do our part and maintain our traditional values. No stone can be left unturned to find a vote for our party’s nominees.
“Heading into an election year where I truly think the future of our country is at stake, we here in Kendall County need to do our part. We can be role models to other counties, not only in Texas, but across the country. I want to be the ‘reddest’ county in the state, and I look forward to working with you all on achieving that goal.”
Art Humphries is a member of the Boerne County Republican Party and a 2022 State GOP Delegate.
