SPECIAL TO THE STAR
Boerne joins communities across the country Saturday, November 18, in helping to end hunger one step at a time, around the corner and around the globe.
The Boerne Crop Hunger Walk is a 1.6mile walk organized by St. Mark Presbyterian Church Outreach Ministry, in partnership with Hill Country Family Services to eradicate hunger. The walk begins in the St. Mark church parking lot at 208 W. Bandera Road and Water Street. The walk proceeds to South Main Street, where walkers will head north past Veterans Plaza, turn around on Evergreen Street and return down Main to Bess Street.
A turn on Bess Street will bring the walkers to Water Street, where a left turn will begin the final tenth-of-a-mile back to the St. Mark parking lot.
The Crop Project began in 1947 when farmers were asked to donate food and seed crops to residents of post-World War II Europe and Asia. The first CROP Hunger Walks took place in Bismarck, North Dakota (1969), and York, Pennsylvania ( 1970).
Since then, CROP Hunger Walk events have been held in hundreds of communities, large and small, raising millions of dollars to eradicate hunger and poverty.
Teams and individuals have pledged more than $1,750 toward the Boerne CROP Walk goal of $2,500 with six days to enter or pledge remaining.
