Community Foundation supports local nonprofits

SPECIAL TO THE STAR

Community Foundation supports local nonprofits

Many local nonprofits recently received good news from the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country.

The Community Foundation’s competitive grant program – the Community Impact Fund -- awarded funds to 43 organizations throughout the Hill Country. The Fund provides unrestricted grants to support nonprofits’ general operations, and it also helps underwrite specific projects, if requested.

Kendall County nonprofits received $111,000 of the total awarded from the Community Impact Fund this year. Some organizations received general operating support, including Hill Country Mission for Health ($12,000), the Center ($10,000), and Kendall County Women’s Shelter ($10,000).

“We’re thrilled with this award,” Connie Padgett, executive director of Mission for Health, said. “General operating support is greatly needed and deeply appreciated. These funds will help us continue to provide primary healthcare for low-income and uninsured adults.”

Other organizations received grants for specific help. Blessings in a Backpack received $15,000 to help fill backpacks of low-income Boerne ISD students with nutritional food each weekend. Hill Country Daily Bread Ministries received $7,000 for its “Stand By Me” youth mentoring program.

The Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country supports charitable organizations and efforts throughout a 10-county region, including Kendall County. It annually supports more than 175 nonprofits and over 100 students pursuing higher education or technical school.

In addition to the Community Impact Fund grants, the Community Foundation manages philanthropic funds for donors, who have directed over $500,000 in grants to Kendall County nonprofits so far this year.

“It’s a privilege to live in an area with so many wonderful organizations,” Austin Dickson, CEO of the Foundation, said. “It’s also an honor to help out many of them with financial support.” To learn more about the Community Foundation, visit www.communityfoundation. net.Star.
