Charger water polo teams face Brennan in playoffs

SAN ANTONIO – After a first-round bye, the Champion water polo teams opened the postseason Thursday at Northside Aquatics Center in a doubleheader against Brennan.

First, the Lady Chargers took on the Lady Bears, followed by the Champion boys team against the Brennan boys.

It was mixed results as the boys rolled past the Bears, while the Lady Chargers were bumped by the Bears and eliminated from the playoffs.

The Champion boys get the winner of the Health Careers and O’Connor match up in the third round.

Girls

The Brennan girls beat the Lady Chargers, 15-5, to end Champion’s season at 11-13.

Champion will graduate Kenna Chastain, Brooklyn Hankins and Victoria Sperber from its roster.

Boys

The Champion boys beat up the Bears 23-9 and improved its record to 21-3.

The boys took control early and were up 12-0 by the end of the first quarter. Champion was leading 15-3 at halftime and then outscored the Bears in the second half, 8-6 as Coach Scott Slay was moving players in and out.
