Tapatio Springs hosts Troubadour Member-Guest golf tournament
In an exciting finish, Tapatio Springs Men’s Golf Association member JJ Montanaro and his guest Rick Edgerton won the second hole of a sudden death playoff to take top honors in the 2023 Tapatio Springs Troubadour Men’s Golf Association Member-Guest Golf Tournament on Saturday, Sept. 23.
In an alternating shot playoff format, Montanaro hit his driver down the No. 1 fairway and Edgerton hit the next shot near a tree about 60 yards out.
Montanaro then hit the green from that distance leaving a 10-footer to the hole. In a pressure putt, Edgerton hit a slow rolling downhill birdie putt into the cup for the first-place overall win.
With that putt, an excited group of Flight 1 players gathered around the green watching the drama and all won an added $50 prize.
The playoff began on hole No. 9 with all flight winners 1-6 teeing off in the sudden death playoff match with the two-man teams taking alternate shots.
Four teams tied and moved on to the next hole in the sudden death playoff. The winners of flight No. 5 missed their birdie putt to leave Edgerton of Flight 1 to make his putt to win outright.

1st Place - Jeff Williams and Mark Hartmann; 2nd Place - Mac Amiri and Greg Davis.
Flight 6
1st Place - Policarpio Abalos and Casey Styers. 2nd Place - Andrew Ladwig and James Schmelter.
