Lady Chargers pummel Patriots in four sets

Boerne Champion began the second round of District 26-5A volleyball pretty much like they opened the first round of district play – with a win over Veterans Memorial.

The Lady Chargers visited Veterans Memorial Tuesday and recorded the 25-15, 22-25, 25-16, 25-19 win. Champion improves to 19-15 overall and 3-5 in 26-5A. They hosted Seguin Friday and visit NB Canyon Tuesday.

Tuesday’s match was at Veterans Memorial after they switched venues in the first round.

The Lady Patriots were scheduled to host their firstround meeting Sept. 8, but they were without power that day so they played at Champion and hosted Tuesday’s match instead.

In Tuesday’s match, Brielle Boothe and Taylor Fenton both finished with 9 kills apiece, Briley Wolff added 8 kills, Raylynn Pitts had 5 kills and Azteca Crawford tallied 4 kills and 5 aces.

Ryann Michalec led the team in kills with 7 aces, Wolff and Fenton finished with 2 blocks each, Pitts and Boothe tied for team-high honors with 12 digs apiece, Ryann Michalec had 4 digs and 14 assists, while Crawford recorded 15 assists.
