Boerne High team tennis won its fourth straight district title after the Greyhounds defeated Wimberley Wednesday on the road.

It’s their fourth title in a row and second straight for head coach Tyson Chandler.

The Hounds graduated a lot of talented players from last year’s state silver-medalist team but showed they brought back enough firepower to make another run at state.

“With only two seniors and with the talent we lost from last season, we knew this year would be tough to repeat last year’s district title,” Stewart said. “Our kids stepped up and have worked extremely hard to improve every day. We have a bunch of players who push each other daily and the hard work paid off with another district championship.”

Boerne opens the playoffs this week and tangles with Pleasanton Monday at Blossom, 1 p.m.

Before facing Wimberley for the district title Wednesday, the Hounds had to get past Fredericksburg last weekend and beat the Battlin’ Billies, 10-8.

BHS also played Wall in a non-district match and won that one, 14-5.

Last Saturday’s win at Fred set up Wednesday’s showdown with the Texans where the Greyhounds prevailed over Wimberley, 10-9.

The Hounds were up 4-3 after doubles and it was tied at 9-9, but Boerne prevailed as it went all 19 matches.

Boerne ends the regular season at 11-3 overall and 5-0 in district.
