Stephen Andrew Spoor
January 30, 1963 – March 1, 2022
Stephen Andrew Spoor, a resident of Boerne, Texas, went home to Jesus on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. Stephen was born on January 30, 1963, in Austin, Texas. He grew up in San Antonio, graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1981 and attended Texas Tech University, where he met the love of his life, Jodi.
After marrying in 1988, they moved to San Antonio where he began his teaching career and where both Emma and Eileen were born. In 2005, the family moved to Boerne.
Stephen was a gifted teacher with a heart for serving special needs students. The relationships he formed with the families of his students went beyond the classroom. It was more than a career for Stephen; he cherished the immense responsibility to care for and serve “God’s forever children.”
He taught at Fort Sam ISD and Lackland ISD, and ended his career in Boerne ISD, where he taught at both Champion High School and Boerne Middle School North. We are thankful for the students, colleagues and friends who enriched his life and valued his work.
Stephen made great friends and volunteered his time with the Christian Men of Boerne and with the First United Methodist Church. He served as Sunday school leader of the Genesis class, VBS volunteer and was active with the youth group when his daughters were growing up.
Stephen’s life was shaped by the many summers he spent at Camp La Junta in Hunt, Texas, first as a camper where he earned the distinguished honor of “All Around Cowboy” and then as a counselor, providing a positive influence for many young campers.
Stephen loved the outdoors, especially hunting, gardening and fishing on the Texas coast. We thank his great hunting and fishing buddies for the good times, great memories and lifelong friendships.
Stephen was a loving husband, father, son, son-in-law, brother, uncle, neighbor and friend.
He is survived by his wife, Jodi Hayes Spoor; his daughters, Emma Spoor and Eileen Spoor, all of Boerne, Texas; his parents, David and Louise "Tookie" Parrish Spoor of San Antonio, Texas; and sister Susan of Carrollton, Texas. He was preceded in death by his sister, Martha Louise Spoor; his father-in-law, Jack Hayes; and mother-in-law Jan Hayes. He is also greatly missed by his faithful companions The Dude and Abbey.
We will celebrate Stephen’s life at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at First United Methodist Church in Boerne, Texas.
