The Champion girls soccer team rolled past Veterans Memorial Friday on the road, 8-0, and the win was probably very memorable for Champion head coach Kara Walters.
Friday’s victory turned into career win No. 200 for the Champion coach whose team improves to 12-3-2 overall.
Her career record is 200-72-20 and Walters said it has been a great journey.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity to coach so many talented players. There are many coaches out there doing a great job with teams that don’t have the parental support like what I’ve experienced,” she said. “What means so much to me about my record is not just the win column, but the number of games I’ve been blessed to coach at the high school level. I feel it reflects years of personal growth and perseverance. When you consistently put one foot in front of the other, before you know it, you have journeyed for miles.”
The Chargers stay in second place and are 9-3 in district. If they win both matches this year, they’ll secure the No. 2 seed in the district.
Champion continues 26-5A action Tuesday by hosting Kyle Lehman and on Friday they visit Seguin. Vivian Garza finished with a hat trick and tallied 3 goals, while Olivia Farias, Addison Huber, Mack Arendall, Mya Serda and Reagan Burkey all knocked in single goals.
Lorenna Garza, Arendall and Hannah Arnall all picked up single assists in the match.
Lola Vaughan was in goal all 80 minutes for the Chargers and had 2 saves.
Champion outshot the Lady Patriots, 18-2, and had 13 shots on goal compared to 2 for Veterans Memorial.
