The Eagles soccer and basketball teams were defeated in the state semifinals last weekend and were kept from advancing to their respective state championship games but still had great seasons.

The Geneva soccer team faced St. Michael’s Catholic Academy on Saturday in San Marcos and lost 3-0.

Geneva went 11-2 in district and was 15-7 this year. They entered Saturday’s contest on a 12-match win streak but couldn’t get it to lucky 13 to play for this year’s state title. This was the furthest the girls program has gone in school history.

Friday’s loss was only the third this season for the Eagles team that capped a great season and went 28-3 this year.

Geneva lost only once during the 2021 part of their season when they were defeated by Wimberley by three points on Dec. 17.

They didn’t lose again for two months until Feb. 17 when they fell to Antonian by four points in a warm-up game after district play.

Friday’s setback was the team’s largest margin of defeat by 8 points, meaning their three losses this year came by a total of 15 points.
