Lady Hounds clinch playoff spot after handling Hawks

The Boerne High volleyball team picked up its biggest win of the year Friday when they defeated Canyon Lake at Greyhound Gym. BHS swept the Lady Hawks, 25- 16, 25- 14, 25- 12, and clinched a playoff spot with Friday’s victory.

The Lady Greyhounds are 5-6 in district and solidified fourth place in 27-4A on Friday.

Boerne is 21-18 overall and played Fredericksburg Tuesday to close out the regular season in a game that doesn’t affect playoff seeding. They’ll open the postseason next week.

BHS knew what was at stake Friday and came out with a 6-0 lead in the first game to set the tone, forcing Canyon Lake to burn a timeout early.

The most points the Lady Greyhounds allowed in any of the games was 16 and that was in the first set. The Lady Hawks tallied 14 in the second set and then didn’t make it into the teens in the final set.

Haley Wheeler and Kinsley Sawyer both dropped in 3 aces, Adyson Hudson had 2 aces, Paige Stegall and Ava Rocchio recorded 8 kills each, Ceci Theriot had 6 kills and Aubree Stegall and Kynsie Jones chipped in with 5 kills apiece.

Rocchio tallied 2 blocks, while each Stegall girl added 1 block, Caylynn Ramos chipped in with 23 assists and Morgan Naylor totaled 10 assists.

Hudson led the team in digs with 15, Sawyer came up with 14 digs and Ramos was also in double-digit digs with 11.
