Hound hardballers go 5-1 at Comal tourney

Boerne High won its first fives games at the Comal Classic Baseball Tournament before suffering its first loss of the season in the tourney finale to finish 5-1 at the event.

Before that, the Greyhounds beat St. Mary’s Hall in a non-district contest last Tuesday.

Boerne is 10-1 overall and scheduled to host Floresville Tuesday. After that, they will play in the Victoria tournament this coming weekend.

At the tourney, the Greyhounds opened with two wins on Thursday. They defeated East Central, 11-3 and then edged Alamo Heights, 5-2.

Riley Pechacek and Rashawn Galloway both hit homers vs. EC and Galloway added a double.

Jake Wright picked up the win and Cager Van Stavern tossed 2 innings.

Against the Mules, Cam Johnson doubled and drove in 2 runs, while Galloway finished with 2 hits.

Xander Cloudy went 6 innings and earned the win after he fanned 6 and gave up 5 hits and 2 runs with no walks and also drove in 2 runs. Andrew Poole earned the save.

On Friday, BHS beat Churchill, 11-0, and also Lewisville, 11-5.

Against the Chargers, Cole Phillips fanned 10, walked 1 and only gave up 1 hit on 77 pitches.

The Hounds plated 10 runs in the first 2 frames and were led by Rashawn Galloway who hit 2 doubles, while Cole Phillips added a double and drove in 4 runs.

Riley Pechacek tripled and scored twice, while Kalob Sanchez, Landon Lestourgeon and Cale Blalock all scored 2 runs.

Boerne scored 6 in the fourth frame to help them beat Lewisville, 11-5, and finished with 15 hits in the game.

Pechacek doubled, added 3 singles, scored 3 runs and picked up 3 RBI, while Connor Shill doubled.

Galloway had 3 hits, Tyler Garritano and Sanchez both scored twice.

Sanchez, Davis Amerman, Ryan Hooper and Andrew Poole all pitched and Amerman picked up the win.

On Saturday, the Hounds shut out Rouse, 9-0.

Riley Pechacek continued to swing the bat well and smacked 2 solo homers, Cam Johnson had 2 hits and 2 RBI, while Xander Cloudy, Connor Shill and Dylan Perez also scored 2 runs each.

Tyler Garritano picked up the win on 75 pitches and Van Stavern threw an inning.

Georgetown defeated Boerne, 8-0, to close out the tourney. Riley Pechacek and Max Garcia had Boerne’s only 2 hits.

Ryan Hooper started on the bump, while Davis Amerman and Van Stavern both tossed in the game.

Before that, the Greyhounds hosted St. Mary’s Hall on Tuesday and beat the Barons, 11-0.

Three different pitchers combined to shut out the Barons on Tuesday and held them without a hit in the game that only went four and a half innings because of the mercy rule. The trio combined for 11 strikeouts.

Tyler Garritano picked up the win and threw three innings. He fanned 7, while Jake Wright and Kalob Sanchez both tossed an inning.

BHS received a triple by Cam Johnson, who also singled, picked up 4 RBI and scored, while Rashawn Galloway doubled and singled, drove in 2 runs and scored and Cole Phillips hit 2 singles.

Riley Pechacek scored twice, Xander Cloudy crossed home plate 3 times, while Dylan Perez walked twice and scored 2 runs.
