Pieper beats Charger volleyball squad in 3
Boerne Champion was home Tuesday to play Pieper in a 26-5A volleyball match and needed to defeat the Lady Warriors to have a chance at a playoff spot.
The Chargers played the Warriors tight, but Pieper still managed a sweep, 25-21, 25-19, 25-16.
Champion drops to 21-17 overall and 5-7 in district. They were officially knocked out of playoff contention with Tuesday’s setback.
The Lady Chargers played Smithson Valley Friday and tangle with Tivy Tuesday to close out the regular season.
If Champion had won, they would still be within striking distance of Pieper but the Warriors improved to 8-4 with Tuesday’s victory and now hold a three-game lead over the Chargers with only two matches left.
In Tuesday’s match, Briley Wolff led the team in kills with 6, Brielle Boothe, Taylor Fenton and Cassidy Breuer all chipped in with 5 kills and Samantha Calderon served well and dropped in 4 aces to go with 9 digs, both team highs.
Cassidy Breuer and Taylor Fenton had 3 blocks apiece, Raylynn Pitts finished with 7 digs, Boothe recorded 8 digs and Ryann Michalec tallied 23 assists.
