After playing in the shortened NEISD Tournament, the Boerne Champion softball resumed district play last Tuesday when they visited Dripping Springs last week.
The Lady Tigers did something no other team has done to the Chargers this year and that’s to keep them off the board.
Drip won Tuesday’s contest, 8-0, and was one pitch away from a perfect game. Tuesday’s loss drops Champion to 5-4-1 overall and 1-1 in district. The Lady Chargers were off Friday and host Alamo Heights Tuesday.
The Tigers scored 2 in the first and added 2 in the second for the 4-0 lead. Drip plated another run in the fifth and closed it out with 3 more in the sixth.
Haiden Anderson pitched a great game for the Tigers and almost had a perfect game. She didn’t give up a walk or run and her defense didn’t commit an error. Anderson didn’t overpower the Chargers and only struck out 4, but she let her defense work behind her and forced 11 groundouts and 6 flyouts.
The only thing between her and perfection was Lily Ritchie’s single in the third. Ritchie was Champion’s only base runner all night. Carmen Vela went 6 innings in the circle for the Chargers and gave up 11 hits, 8 runs, fanned 10 and walked 5.
