Lady Chargers volleyball picks up win at Wagner
Before last Friday’s football at Wagner, the Champion volleyball team was in action against the Lady Thunderbirds and picked up a four-set victory.
Champion won the contest 25-11, 25-10, 23-25, 25-19. The Lady Chargers are 21-16 overall and 5-6 in district. They have three tough teams left on the schedule and host Pieper Tuesday, Smithson Valley Friday and visit Kerrville Tivy to close out the regular season.
Champion is currently tied with Seguin for fifth in the district standings at 5-6. Pieper is the fourth-place team in 26-5A with three matches left and is 7-4, so the Lady Chargers have some ground to make up down the stretch if they are going to clinch a postseason berth.
Only the top four teams in each district advance to the playoffs.
In last Friday’s match, Brielle Boothe led the team in kills with 18, Briley Wolff was also in double-digit kills with 11, while Taylor Fenton and Raylynn Pitts added 8 kills each and Cassidy Breuer tacked on 6 kills.
Pitts served up 4 aces, Breuer dropped in 2 aces and Wolff had 1 ace and 1 block, while Boothe and Fenton both came up with 1 block each.
Addy Schiffelbein paced the team in digs with a dozen, Boothe and Ryann Michalec tallied 7 digs apiece, while Michalec also came up with 43 assists. For more on the Chargers, see the Star.
