Water polo and team tennis continue playoffs this week
The playoffs continue this week for the Charger water polo team, along with the tennis squads from Boerne High and Champion.
Water polo
The Champion water polo teams opened the postseason last week and the boys won against Brennan, while the girls had their season close after they were defeated by Brennan.
The Champion boys played O’Connor Tuesday afternoon in the regional quarterfinals with the winner advancing to the fourth round this coming weekend. The Chargers entered Tuesday’s contest at 21-3 overall.
Team Tennis
Team tennis began thirdround playoff action this week and both the Greyhounds and Chargers were still alive in their respective playoff brackets.
Boerne
In the 4A bracket, Boerne faced district opponent Davenport Monday morning at the Anne Marie courts in San Antonio and won the contest, 14-5, to improve to 14-3 overall.
Boerne advances to the regional tourney with a semifinals match Thursday at noon against the winner of Devine and Zapata. Thursday’s winner plays in the regional finals Friday at noon with a state berth up for grabs.
The Greyhounds defeated Port Lavaca Calhoun last Thursday in Beeville, 19-0, in second-round action after a 19-0 win over Pleasanton to start the playoffs.
Champion
In the 5A bracket, Champion played Leander Monday at Dripping Springs and won, 10-4, to stand at 15-4.
Champion advances to the regional tournament at Blossom and plays in the semifinals Thursday at 10 a.m. against the winner of Sharyland Pioneer and Flour Bluff.
Thursday’s winner advances to the regional finals Friday at 10 a.m., with a spot at the 5A state tournament on the line.
The Chargers beat Leander Glenn in the opening round and then smacked Mac (MacArthur) last Thursday, 14-0, to advance to Monday’s third round.
