Lady Chargers cruise away from Thunderbirds
With a tough stretch of district play ahead, the Champion volleyball team needs every win they can get as they fight for a playoff spot in 26-5A.
Champion hosted Wagner Tuesday and picked up one of those victories against the Lady Thunderbirds.
The Lady Chargers won in straight sets, 25-15, 25-16, 25-13, and is 18-12 overall and 2-2 in district.
Champion coach Kelly McDaniel said they can’t overlook any team in such a tough district.
“We can’t count out anybody at this point, I always tell the girls that on any given day, anybody can do anything,” she said. “ It’s about finding the consistency because we have a tough district.”
Champion visited Pieper Friday and is at Smithson Valley Tuesday.
Ella Coleman had a strong match and finished with 11 kills, 3 aces and 12 digs, all team highs.
Brielle Boothe added 8 kills and Raylynn Pitts finished with 6 kills, Pitts, Ryann Michalec and Boothe all finished with 3 aces, while Taylor Fenton tallied 2 blocks and Pitts added a block and 10 digs.
Boothe recorded 8 digs, Azteca Crawford had 4 digs, Michalec came up with 15 assists and Crawford added 11 assists.
