Reading of Constitution draws crowd to library amphitheater

Members of the Boerne Middle School North Drum and Fife Corps (from left) Paige De La Rosa, Soleil Dekock, Ashton Jenkins and Case Reaves play “Yankee Doodle” to open Saturday’s “Public Reading of the U.S. Constitution” at the Patrick Heath Library amphitheater. Civic and organization leaders read sections and pages of the U.S. Constitution, marking National Constitution Week September 17-23. In 1955, Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the observance of Constitution Week. The resolution was signed into law August 2, 1956, by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. DAR members Sheila Colston (holding flag) and Gracie Funk follow along during the Sept. 16 reading celebration
