SELMA – Both Boerne ISD varsity cross country programs were in action last Saturday at the 21st Annual Patriots CC Invitational hosted by FEAST.

The Chargers and Hounds held their own against a huge field and both ran in the open division against the larger schools.

There were teams from all over South Texas at the meet and they came from as far away as College Station, the Rio Grande Valley, Kingwood, Austin and Corpus Christi.

Champion’s Elizabeth Leachman ran a time of 15:54 and it was thought to be a state record, but Milesplit could not confirm that it was an exact 5K and had it measured just under that, nullifying the record.

There was a contentious disagreement on the exact distance between the host of the meet and Milesplit. The host insisted that it was indeed a 5K or 3.1 miles but Milesplit did not agree and had it over 3 miles but under 3.1.

Still, Leachman’s time of 15:54 is one of the fastest in the state.

Champion is racing in Seguin this weekend at Starcke Park in a meet hosted by NB Canyon, while the Hounds are scheduled to be off and race next weekend at the Islander Splash in Corpus Christi.
