Duane Poitevint Jr., 66, passed to his eternal home with Jesus Christ on Aug. 31,2023, after a short, but aggressive battle with cancer.

Although born in Mississippi, he continued to claim that he was “Texas Born & Raised.” His parents were Duane Poitevint Sr. and Jenella Poitevint of Pecos, Texas.

While growing up in Pecos, “Home of the World’s First Rodeo,” Duane served as a Rodeo Director in the 1980s and enjoyed serving in many of the community volunteer activities.

Duane had the opportunity for a new job adventure in the early 1990s which took his young family to Dhahran, Saudi Arabia, where he worked on the East-West pipeline across the Arabian desert. He made many friends in his Arabian co-workers and ex-patriots from around the world.

One of his hobbies was woodworking, a talent passed to his two sons. He was also a talented artist, doing pencil and ink western art and bronze sculpting.

He loved hunting and always looked forward to the opening bird season, and A&M football. Fishing at the Texas Gulf Coast with family was another favorite of his.

Duane and his family lived in Midland, Texas, after returning from Saudi Arabia. He worked in the oil and gas industry most of his life until retirement. He and his wife, Kim, had always loved the Texas Hill Country, finally moving to the Boerne area in 2019.

Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Jenella Poitevint. He is survived by his wife Kim, of 44 years; his son, Garret Duane Poitevint and wife, Tandi; grandchildren, Clayton and Payton Poitevint of Midland, son, Preston Scott Poitevint of SanAntonio; brother, Morris Scott Poitevint and wife Rosie and son Dylan of Lake Jackson. Also, many cousins from the Morris and Poitevint families.

A celebration of life service was planned for Saturday, September 9, at 1 p.m. at Ebensberger Fisher Funeral Home, 1265 N. Main St., Boerne, Texas. A short reception will be held following the service at the Clubs of Cordillera Ranch, 1092 Clubs Drive in Boerne, from 3-5 p.m.

The family has requested any donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org or 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, Tenn. 38105, or West of the Pecos Museum, 120 E. Dot Stafford St., Pecos, Texas 79772.

The family would like to extend its thanks to family and friends for so much support during his illness. Also, to the caregivers at the PAM Health Facility and Guiding Light Hospice.
