Boerne was a team possessed on Friday versus Pleasanton at Eagles Stadium.

Coming off a disappointing start to their season last week with a narrow 42-35 loss to Flour Bluff, the Greyhounds went on a tear, pouring on a 47-7 romping of the Eagles.

Thirty seven of Boerne’s 47 points came in the first half, with freshman quarterback Hank Hendrix throwing two touchdowns during the half.

Running back TJ Dement punched in two running touchdowns and tight end Hutson Hendrix contributed a score in the first half.

The Greyhounds scored on a safety to give the team a 23-0 advantage in the second quarter.

Prior to the safety, Boerne defensive back McCoy Bruce forced a pick-6 in the second quarter, which set up a Hank Hendrix touchdown pass to wide receiver Brooks Perez at the 8:30 mark to give the Greyhounds a 21-0 lead.

At the 3:55 mark in the second quarter, Hutson Hendrix hauled in a 6-yard run to give the Greyhounds a 30-0 lead. Linebacker Luke Carroll recovered a Pleasanton fumble 10 seconds later to set up Dement’s second touchdown run -- a 10-yard haul -- which gave the Greyhounds a 37-0 score entering the half.

“We tried to bury last Friday and learn from it, and play our best game tonight,” Greyhounds Coach Che Hendrix said. “It was an awesome team win for our guys, but we will move on, on Monday and get ready to play next week.”

Boerne travels to face Antonian Prep out of San Antonio at 7 p.m. Friday at Antonian Stadium.

Greyhounds running back Ivan Perez contributed a 10-yard touchdown run at the 6:04 mark in the third quarter to boost Boerne’s lead to 44-0.

Pleasanton’s Keegan Holes contributed the Eagles’ only score of the game, a running touchdown at the 10:28 mark in the fourth quarter.

Che Hendrix said his team played with more poise and speed in its second game of the season.

“Our mantra is that we are 1-0 each week,” he said. “When we win a game, we try to do a good job as a coaching staff of learning and having a growth mindset each week. We treat each game as it is an independent week.”

Having an independent mindset allows the team to focus on the present, Hendrix said.
