Comfort High’s fast start in Friday’s football game at Ingram wasn’t enough to carry the Bobcats to the finish line against its rival Warriors.

Comfort jumped out to a 21-0 lead but fell to the Warriors, 28-21, to drop to 0-2 this season.

The Bobcats are still looking for the first win of the year for new coach Jay Rieken and will get another chance this Friday when CHS hosts Blanco for its 2023 home opener.

In the waning moments of the first quarter, Mason West rumbled in from the 6-yard line and the Bobcats were up 7-0 after the extra points. Micah Nye hit West on a 69-yard bomb to help set up the score.

On Ingram’s next possession, the Comfort defense helped out after Topper Sterling scooped up a loose ball on a fumble and returned it 55 yards for a touchdown to bump the Bobcats lead to 14-0 and end the first quarter.

Late in the second, Comfort added to its lead after Nye punched it in from the 2-yard line and the Cats were up 21-0 at the break.

Ingram definitely hurt itself with 3 fumbles and an interception in the first half but got on track in the second half with 28 unanswered points.

The Warriors hit a 39-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter and then added a short TD run and it was 21-14 when the game went to the fourth quarter.

With 2:29 left in the game, Ingram was able to tie it at 21-21 on a 17-yard TD pass from Hightower to Delgado and then after the Bobcats didn’t score on the ensuing kickoff, the Warriors put the final dagger into the Cats.

Ingram punched in the final score of the night after Boites ran it in from the 5-yard line with just 19 ticks on the clock. The extra point made it 28-21 and left Comfort with not a whole lot of time.

The Bobcats battled to the end but didn’t score with so little time left and was not able to get off the board in the second half.
