Lady Chargers defense shuts down Mules

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team picked up a big win in district play Tuesday when the Lady Chargers hosted Alamo Heights.

The Boerne Champion girls soccer team picked up a big win in district play Tuesday when the Lady Chargers hosted Alamo Heights.

Champion won Tuesday’s tussle, 2-0, and improves to 8-3 in 26-5A and 11-3-2 overall. They visit Veterans Memorial on Friday.

Tuesday’s victory also moves the Chargers ahead of the Mules in the win column since Heights has 7 district wins. It also allows Champion to split the season series with Heights since the Mules defeated them in the first round. Both teams won their matches on their home turfs.

Since Champion is 8-3 and the Mules are 7-3-2, the Chargers move into second place in 26-5A based on the district formula that a win is worth 3 points and a tie is worth 1. Using that formula, the Chargers have 24 points and the Mules have 23.

Champion played well, especially on the defensive end on Tuesday and didn’t allow a goal. The Charger “D” only gave up two shots, one on goal, all night, while the Charger offense tallied 11 shots, 8 on goal.

Champion scored midway through the first half and it was Emma Mae Dixon who put the Chargers on the board to make it 1-0.

About midway through the second half, Hannah Arnall made it 2-0 on the assist from Skyleigh Arnold.

Freshman Lola Vaughan was in goal for the Chargers and helped with the shutout. She had one save.
