HELOTES – The tennis teams from Boerne Champion and Boerne High were entered in the Northside ISD Gold Tournament last weekend.
Most of the matches were played at the Northside Tennis Center near O’Connor High School but some were also played at select NISD schools because of construction at the other Northside tennis complex, Anne Marie.
Heat played an issue at the tourney and one of the teams entered, Dripping Springs, dropped out after a few of their players suffered some heat-related symptoms.
That affected Champion’s schedule and only left them with two matches played on Friday. They didn’t return on Saturday and finished tied for fifth, along with the Greyhound stringers.
Champion
The Chargers rolled past 6A Brandeis 10-1 in the first round and then lost to Georgetown in the second round, 10-3, both on Friday.
The loss is their first of the season and drops the Charger squad to 5-1.
Champion was scheduled to host Smithson Valley Tuesday.
Boerne High
The Greyhounds won two of their three matches played to tie for fifth with the Chargers.
Boerne High beat Del Rio, 10-8, and then fell to Lubbock Cooper in the second round, 10-5, Friday.
BHS returned Saturday and took care of Antonian in the heat, 14-5, and didn’t play the fifth-place match with Champion.
The Hounds are 3-3 overall and scheduled to play Ingram Wednesday, 4 p.m.
