Geneva School of Boerne looked sharp in its season opener Friday night in Katy when the Eagles took on Harmony School of Innovation.
The Eagles rolled to a 63-0 win to start the year at 1-0 and give Grant Gaston his first win as the Geneva head coach.
Gaston said there were a lot of positives in the game. But one thing stood out for the Eagles’ coach.
“I’m happiest that we were able to get a lot of kids into the game, since we don’t have a JV. It’s important to get some of the younger players game experience,” he said. “There’s still a lot we need to correct and we have a lot of tough opponents but we’ll take it one week at a time.”
It’s another road trip for the 1-0 Eagles team that will visit Dilley Friday before their home opener Sept. 8 against La Pryor.
Geneva was too much for the overmatched Katy school that is only in its second year and doesn’t even have bleachers for the fans to sit. Those who attended had to bring their own chairs.
Reid Wilson put the Eagles ahead less than three minutes into the contest with a 2-yard rushing score for the 7-0 lead with 9:20 remaining.
Less than three minutes later, Wilson galloped in from the 15-yard line and Geneva pulled ahead 14-0 for the fast start.
The onslaught continued from there and the Eagles tacked on two more touchdowns for the 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Geneva scored two more TDs in the second period to take a 42-0 lead into halftime.
Once the second half started, the Eagles recorded three more touchdowns to put the game out of reach and were leading 63-0 by the time the game went to the fourth quarter.
The Eagles tucked their talons away and showed some mercy and didn’t score in the final stanza.
Wilson ran for two TDs, Josh Dennis rushed for three scores, while Court Hess, Reid Aderholt, K.P. Fitzgerald and Noah Brunsvold all tallied one touchdown each.
Jacob Rosenstiel tossed two touchdown passes and Caleb Quitadamo all threw for a TD pass.
Defensively, Fitzgerald, Brady Chandler, Bryce Hanover Dennis, Jax Riddle and Jack Plesko all came up with turnovers with three fumbles and three interceptions.
